SPECIES IN SS&S
Each species has it's own nation, leader (at least nominally), ranking system, tithe (which the government will periodically enforce on you at random) and "special" abilities not usually open to others - each with their own ingenious built-in downside, at least at first...
More info will be given to individual characters based on how much their character would know about each of the races.
Fairies: Powerful, beautiful, and really, REALLY nasty. Leader: Queen Titania Special Abilities: weaving elflocks - basically, they can turn an unresisting person's hair into a set of magical time bombs... Tithe: The tiend. -10 from magical ability Strengths: Fairies have eight senses, including an ability to sense magic and mild telepathy Weaknesses: Cold iron blinds all eight, as well as burning the fairy’s essence Ranks: Sprite, Pixie, Leprechaun, Brownie, Hobgoblin, Goblin, Redcap, Bogart, Mogwai, Faun, Djinni, Elf
Dwarves What they lack in height they make up for in bloody-minded war-mongering. Leader: Thorin Oakenshield Special Abilities: metallurgy - making stuff out of other stuff. Tithe: Mining fees. -10 from total gold Strengths: can fit through small spaces and mine for gold Weaknesses: a physical inability to resist shininess Ranks: Minehand, Miner, Mine Captain, Smithhand, Blacksmith, Smithy Captain, Soldier, Warrior, Army Captain, Bronze Commander, Iron Commander, Gold Commander
Manxome Foes The weirdest gallimaufry of monsters you’ll ever hear poems about. Leader: The Jabberwock Special Abilities: vorpality - basically, if Lewis Carrol says they can do it, they can... Tithe: Mimsiness. -10 from strength Strengths: Everyone instinctively hesitates before attacking one, due to their sheer wierdness Weaknesses: allergic to nonsense weapons Ranks: Rath, Mome Rath, Borogrove, Mimsy Borogrove, Tove, Slithy Tove, Jubjub Bird, Passionate Jubjub Bird, Bandersnatch, Frumious Bandersnatch, Snark, Boojum Snark
Undead Some people just don’t know when to stay corpses. Leader: The Necromancer Special Abilities: Curse-Bites - the ability to, well, curse with, well, bites... Tithe: Decomposition. -10 from resilience Strengths: Limited ability to transfer their energy between magic and health and strength and prowess, since it’s all magically created by the Necromancer anyway. Weaknesses: Terrible phobia of religion Ranks: Skeleton, Zombie, Ghoul, Mummy, Poltergeist, Draugr, Vampire, Mananananga, Revenant, Soucouyant, Banshee, Lich
Humanity For some reason these guys exist in every known universe – you just can’t escape the blighters. Leader: King Arthur IV Special Abilities: Religion - they can literally call on their gods for help. Tithe: Income tax. -10 from whatever the government decides... Strengths: Few weaknesses. Weaknesses: Few strengths. Ranks: Private, Lance-corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Sergeant Major, 2nd Lieutenant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, Brigadier, Field Marshal
